Deleting Duplicate Songs In iTunes – What You Need To Know To Get It Done
Deleting Duplicate Songs In iTunes can be a daunting task. It is a rather common occurrence for one to have identical music files in his library. Doesn’t that just make you want to reformat your iPhone all over again? Well, you don’t really have to! There are actually two ways you can go about it.
To help you have an idea which one is the better method, here is an overview of the two:
Search And Eliminate
a. Go To Your Favorite Apple Program And Choose File.
Under this menu, you will see another menu to address what we are looking for. This basically shows you the copies of your music files based on their name, and of course, the artist. Now, that should let you see all the multiple versions of the same music file. With this, you can hold the Shift key, after that choose File again. However this time, choose the option that will display exact identical music files, and this will only display the music files with the same name, artist and album.
b. Sort Your Library By Date
You can do so by clicking the Date Added column. This will help you in classifying your music files according to the date they were placed in the library.
c. Purge Older Items
Now, this is why you had to sort your library by date earlier. You can just click on the item with the oldest date by again holding down the Shift key as you go up or down the list of older files. Then remove these items by choosing Edit from the menu.
Get A Third-Party Software
This method can be very useful, but it comes with a price. There are a lot of third party products designed just to do away with identical files. But not all are as safe as the first method.
Managing Your Music Files Conveniently
Deleting duplicate songs in iTunes can be very tedious work. Take note, however, that if you choose to do the first method and have the same content synced with another computer, then you will have to do this all over again. So, why bother with all of these if you can just do it with one sweep?

Based on these two methods of deleting duplicate songs in iTunes, if you choose to use a third-party product, don’t expect to get it for free. This may come with a fee but the price can pretty much speak for itself. So, no matter what method you choose, the overwhelming task of removing your identical music files in your music library can be accomplished.
